The Indian-American population grew by 38%
The population of Indian-origin people in America grew by 38% in seven years between 2010 and 2017.
This was released in a report by the South Asian advocacy group.
There are at least 630,000 Indians who are undocumented, a 72% increase since 2010.
Nearly 250,000 Indians overstayed their visa in 2016, therefore, becoming undocumented.
Diamond Jubilee of Naval Air Squadron
Indian Navy's first Naval Air Squadron 550 celebrated its Diamond Jubilee on 17 Jun 19 at naval base Kochi.
It has played a key role in training the Navy's Maritime Reconnaissance pilots and observers.
The squadron has been part of several operations, from the 1971 Indo-Pak war to Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations during the December 2004 Tsunami, and more.
Amendments to curb the use of black money
Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) vice chairman Justice Arijit Pasayat suggested appropriate amendments in existing tax laws to curb the use of money power to win elections.
Nearly Rs. 3,800 crore was seized from across the country during the time of elections in April-May 2019.
SIT that was formed in 2014 has already prepared its seventh interim report.
RBI fined HDFC bank Rs. 1 crore
RBI fined HDFC Bank Rs 1 crore for not reporting frauds and non-compliance with other directions.
The fine pertains to submission of forged bill of entries (BoEs) by certain importers to HDFC Bank for remittance of foreign currency.
The penalty was imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under the provisions of Section 47A(1)(c) and Section 46(4)(i) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
Goa Revolution Day: 18 June
Goa Revolution Day is celebrated on 18 June.
On this day in 1946, freedom fighter Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia had given a clarion call to Goans to fight for the state's liberation from Portuguese rule during a speech at Margao in South Goa.
The speech provided a fillip to the Goan liberation movement, with the state finally being liberated in 1961 after around 450 years of Portuguese rule.
NEC, NPC agreed on tie-up venture
The North Eastern Council (NEC) and the National Productivity Council (NPC) have agreed on a tie-up venture in the area of capacity building and evaluation of projects.
With this initiative, the benefits to the North Eastern Region would be immense in terms of improved capacity in project implementation and management.
This will help in timely completion of projects.
Maharashtra govt to launch a new program
Maharashtra government will soon launch the Chief Minister's Employment Generation Programme for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
It will create 10 lakh jobs in the next 5 years.
The flagship program of the Industries Department will have a 30% reservation for women entrepreneurs.
The scheme envisages setting up one lakh units in five years, 40 percent of them in rural areas.
Lander Vikram reached Sriharikota
The lander and rover meant for India’s 2nd lunar mission Chandrayaan-2 reached the ISRO’s launch pad at Sriharikota.
The rover called Pragyan is installed within the lander known as Vikram.
Chandrayaan-2 will be launched GSLV-Mark-3 on July 15th with the aim of making the lander to soft-land on the South Pole of the moon by September 6, 2019.
India would be the 4th country to do so.
