Qu Dongyu to head the UN's FAO
Qu Dongyu became the first Chinese national to be elected to head the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
He will succeed Brazil's Jose Graziano da Silva.
FAO looks into the issue of food security, agricultural development, agro-business, trade, and biotechnology.
The headquarters of FAO is in Rome.
Rachna won RedInk award for Aadhaar expose
Rachna Khaira of The Tribune has bagged the prestigious RedInk Award for 'Journalist of the Year'.
She won the award for her expose during 2018 on the functioning of the UIDAI and its Aadhaar data cache.
Khaira's investigation confirmed that personal data of millions of citizens were at risk of being hacked or traded for a price.
Girish Koushik is India’s 63rd Grandmaster
Girish A. Koushik from Mysuru became India’s 63rd Grandmaster at the 37th Balaton International Chess Festival in Hungary.
Girish had completed his second GM norm in Mallorca late in May, and the third in Budapest the following week.
He became Karnataka’s third GM after MS Thej Kumar and GA Stany.
Priya Serrao crowned Miss Universe Australia
Priya Serrao has won the Miss Universe Australia title for 2019.
She will now represent Australia in the Miss Universe competition later this year.
Western Australia’s Bella Kasimba and another Victorian Marijana Radmanovic rounded out 2019’s top three, placing second and third.
Haryana govt launches Krishi Kiosk launched
Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Om Prakash Dhankar launched 'Krishi Kiosk' at Panchkula for facilitating the farmers.
Through this Kiosk, the farmers will not only be able to get information about the schemes of the Department, but the formalities related to claims to Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana can also be completed.
He also flagged off the ‘Suchana Rath’ facility.
List of best police stations in India released
An internal survey was conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs to find the best police stations in India.
As per the survey, the three best police stations in the country are in Rajasthan, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and West Bengal.
The Kalu police station in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district is ranked number one.
The second in the rank is Campbell Bay in Nicobar district.
New tortoise species found in India
Wildlife experts have discovered the Impressed Tortoise also known as the Manouria impressa – a new species of tortoise near Yazali of Lower Subansari district in Arunachal Pradesh.
The species were last found in Gwa in Myanmar.
The first-ever sighting of the rare Impressed Tortoise or Manouria impressa will help to focus on turtle conservation in Northeast India.
Loan agreement signed b/w Uttrakhand & WB
The Government of India, the Government of Uttarakhand and the World Bank signed a Loan Agreement of $31.58 million for the Uttarakhand Public Financial Management Strengthening Project.
The project will help improve the State's ability to manage it's Financial Systems and utilization of Development Resources.
The project will help the State enhance accountability in public finances.
